Well, the first one is a bit odd: looks like you should never compare your work with the one of your masters... but if you don't, you become auto-referential and you won't never improve.
And what about number three? I know many mangakas whom are working on just one project from over twenty years! :P

I think 1 is in the vein of, "I'm not as good as Adam Hughes" as opposed to "this is how Adam Hughes does this and I can adopt it to become better."

True, but I don't think that's what is being dissected here. I think it refers to putting your entire ego as a person on the line in regards to a project that you haven't done yet which creates too much pressure and guarantees a choke. This thinking overlooks that there's always another project afterwards. Another issue in the series if this one wasn't your personal best, etc. Savvy?

As an alternative, put up a poster with a list of motivational themes. Think about your goals, and tell yourself that you are on the way to accomplishing them. Keep small pieces of paper with simple motivational words or short phrases to "prime" your mind.

Our mind lies to us all the time, the subconscious is a mess of beliefs that are mostly untrue, and which the mind guides you towards making true. Use that to your advantage. Create a personal "self story" where you achieve the things you want, and keep reminding yourself that its true. Eventually the mind accepts the lie and guides you in the direction of being a success. The subconscious mind may be the best example of the "self-fulfilling prophecy" syndrome. So what you need to do is predict good things for yourself.

Agreed. From a "framing" standpoint thou shalt nots don't work, because you have to think of an elephant before you can 'not' think of one. Good advice.

I did a couple of these. I'll try to avoid any of these. Good advises.
